Police – What is the role of the police in protecting my empty property?

The police can only support landlords when activity like squatting is illegal. So for residential property, the police will remove and potentially arrest squatters. Landlords will not get this protection for non-commercial property. The police will intervene in any anti-social or criminal damage behaviour like vandalism, fly tipping or theft, however, this may be treated as a low priority. Often just a crime number will be issued which can be forwarded to the property insurer.
